Commission
publishes new report on the situation of Roma, Gypsies and Travellers in Europe

The
results of a major study on the situation of Roma, Gypsies and Travellers in
Europe are now available. The
50-page report looks at the conditions Roma, Gypsies and Travellers face in a
range of fields, including education, employment, housing and healthcare. It
also gives recommendations to the EU institutions, Member States and civil
society organisations on how to strengthen their policies and actions regarding
the Roma.
The
study was carried out by a consortium comprising Focus Consultancy, the European
Roma Rights Centre, and the European Roma Information Office.
It was co-funded through the anti-discrimination and social inclusion
programmes of the European Commission. The report is published in English,
Romani, French and German.

EC internship for young Roma university graduates
The
Commission will be launching an internship scheme from the beginning of May
2005. The scheme, sponsored by the
Open Society Institute will be open to ten young Roma graduates in 2005 and each
stage will last three months.
