A collage of TV programmes offering a humoristic view of the multicultural society, followed by a short introduction.

13:40 ‘Turkish for beginners’ (‘Türkish für Anfanger’), ARD, Germany. 10’ fragment.
In this first episode we see that the families of German psychotherapist Doris and her children Lena and brother Nils decides to move in with her Turkish friend Metin in a new house. Police detective Metin also brings two teenage children into this micro society. The confrontations between the youths do not shy stereotyping and prejudice, but it always in a hilarious way that in the ends leads to understanding?

Being faced with prejudice on the labour market, protagonist Ap spontaneously pretends to be an Italian. Of course he will be revealed, with all due consequences. In the end. Among friends is the place to be.

15:15 Winner of Prix Europa Iris 2006: ‘My father the Turk’ (‘Mein Vater der Türke’), SWR. 90’.
Cahit Cubuk is one of the first immigrant workers in Germany in the 60’s. He falls in love with a young woman from Stuttgart who wants to become a teacher. Six months into her pregnancy she grudgingly accepts that he goes back to Turkey for what she believes is a short vacation – a vacation with his Turkish wife and daughters. He never returns. In spring their son Attila Marcus is born. Cahit Cubuk is thrilled. Finally he has a son and he tries to get him, but he fails.
Marcus is raised by his mother, he does not speak Turkish and he admits once having told some friends in school that his father was French. Thirty-eight years later Marcus travels to a remote village in Turkey to meet his father. There he not only hears his father’s story, but also meets his two half sisters. They confront their father with the lack of love they suffered. Why is a boy more worth than a girl?
The meeting of the father was planned as a happy ending to a long life story. That turns out to be a moving film about getting to know and accept each other’s cultures.
